A new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the tallest structure built with LEGO® bricks has been set with 35 metres of more than half a million colourful LEGO® bricks. After five days of creative collaboration, thousands of enthusiastic LEGO builders of all ages have contributed to the new world record at an Italian Lego event in Fabbrica del Vapore.
The grand finale culminated at 4pm when Alessandro Cattelan, familiar Italian TV face and voice of Radio DEEJAY, used a crane to add the last brick to the tower, securing a historical entry into the record books.
The LEGO tower was measured and the record officially announced by Lorenzo Veltri, Guinness World Records adjudicator, who attended the event’s closing ceremony.
Each tiny LEGO brick was an important contributor to reach the record, just as everyday actions are important to build a better future. As a symbol of this idea, the LEGO Group donated 7 Euros for every centimetre built of the tower to Urban Oasis – a project, which focuses on the protection and development of Urban Oasis in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
We love breaking records at BRICK, having set some new Guinness World Record titles of our own at ExCeL last year. We’re working with Guinness World Records on what we can attempt this year as we are looking to set records in a number of new LEGO categories.
